Portfolio Development
8 Week Program, Private Tutoring, Individual Scheduling

Students in Portfolio Development should be ages 15 to 20 and is recommended for high school JUNIORS.
2 hours a week for 8 weeks - $480, can be made in weekly payments of $60

This is a private weekly tutoring session taught by Lee Goodwin, a local artist with a BA in Fine Art and a concentration in Art Education. Having recently graduated from art school, I know what today's colleges are looking for in an art portfolio and how to put together a book that really represent the individual. I am located in the Westford Area and am willing to host classes or come to your home.

Portfolio Development is a private one-on-one production-oriented class intended for high school students who wish to expand and focus their art portfolio before to applying to college fine arts programs. While most schools offer simple instruction toward producing standard some portfolio materials that colleges want to see, students should produce artwork that also displays their personal style and interest. Spending the extra time to prepare will give your portfolio the edge you need to stand out.

Portfolio Development is a class that focuses on this important element of their path, to create portfolio specific artwork, with guidance and feedback. Students will be encouraged to define their own projects and express their own voice. We will review college requirements, examine completed work, create new work, photograph pieces and arrange a completed portfolio.

Most portfolio art is drawing-based since it allows reviewers to identify core-skill strengths and weaknesses quickly. Every student's portfolio will look different. Most materials should be supplied by the student per area of their decided interest. Some basic materials may be supplied or supplemented.

Your portfolio should demonstrate strong drawing skills. Materials may include: Graphite, colored and pastel pencils, soft and oil pastels, charcoal stick and vine, pen/brush and ink, and more.

Painting is typically a part of most portfolios. Materials could include: paints such as watercolor, gouache, acrylic and water soluble oils.

Surfaces available include a variety of drawing papers, bristol board, heavy and lightweight watercolor papers, canvas and hardboard panels.

Art For Anxiety
6 Week Program
Dates TBA in August for Fall 2017
Can be scheduled anytime privately
For Teens and Adults
$40/hour session or $200 for 6 weeks

Learn to use the relaxed state of your creative process to help you deal with anxiety and help you reduce your symptoms. Anxiety disorders affect around 18% of all adults  and 25% of teens in the United States. That’s over 50 million people struggling with an anxiety. Some are better at handling it than others – some are on specific medications or different treatments, others are struggling day to day just to get through life. Anxiety is a real issue. The world is moving at a faster pace than ever before, and just keeping up with society can be exhausting and stressful. An effective way to deal with anxiety disorders is through meditative art.

Anxiety can cause excessive worry, trouble sleeping, irrational fears, physical tension, self-consciousness, panic, and more. These effects can be crippling, both physically and emotionally, and the longer you live with anxiety, the stronger these symptoms can become. Overall, anxiety is damaging to your health – mind, body, and spirit.

Meditative art approach can greatly help reduce the effects of anxiety. Combining the principles of meditation, being aware of breath, emotion, movement, with expressive art prompts. These art tasks not only encourage self-expression, but help with coping strategies, focus, and positive thought training. Through meditative art, you’re encouraged to express yourself, and your innermost emotions and feelings through art; so it is personal and meaningful to you. This can become a life-long skill and coping strategy.

Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a complete beginner, meditative art way of approaching your creative engagement. This shifts the focus far more on the feelings and spiritual awakening throughout the class itself, rather than on a finalized product. Though, the sense of accomplishment that can come from your own artwork is part of the process as well. Veteran artists can use meditative art as a way to unwind from their typical art forms and routines and to discover more about their inner-selves, rather than focusing on a piece of art for other people.

OPEN FIGURE DRAWING SESSIONS

WEDNESDAYS 7PM-10PM

SUMMER 2017

AT THE HEARING ROOM
119 CHELMSFORD ST. LOWELL, MA

Picture
Lee Gee is now coordinating figure drawing sessions at The Hearing Room. For a suggested $10 donation, a model is provided for three hour sessions on Wednesdays nights from 7pm to 10pm. The donation is for paying the model, acquiring/building more easels and supplies and for the space.

This is a great opportunity for all levels to improve their drawing skills. Drop-in artists are welcome to participate. We are doing anatomy studies and not focusing on finished works.

Figure drawing at the beginning is really making generalizations about the body. When you consider how many sittings and hours artists in the past needed to capture a good likeness, our short modern sessions don't cut it. The more you know about the figure and the more confident your hand is the more information you can get in a one minute, ten minute or beyond pose. It takes practice!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED - Please come prepared to draw with your own supplies. You will need plenty of paper; I recommend 18”x24” Newsprint paper. Drawing tools are flexible and while you are welcome to use your medium of preference, I recommend charcoal (vines, sticks or pencils), a kneadable eraser and a hard eraser. It's also handy to have some wipes or a rag to clean your hands, and a snack.
